The importance of Officer-level recruitment in Fundraising

I joined the Fundraising Team in 2022 and the time has flown by! I am new to the Fundraising recruitment sector and I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by such a supportive team to guide me through it all. Roughly 15-20% of the Fundraising Recruitment Team’s appointments are at the Officer level. This is an exciting growth area and has been a fun area to focus on.

I have recently been supporting several different organisations on Officer level posts. I have had the pleasure of working with some charities that I have admired for a long time and I felt like I was able to play a small part to contribute to their continued success. Additionally, there have been many opportunities for me to work with charities that I hadn’t heard of before and it has been incredible to find out more about the amazing work they do. Some examples include Anna Freud Centre, St Mungo’s and Change Please Foundation.

With so many new and exciting roles out there, the current recruitment market is being led by candidates which makes it even more important than before to clearly showcase the benefits and mission of the organisation for the role to stand out. When it comes to Officer level posts specifically, candidates are either looking to start their fundraising career or, take the next steps and they really value training and professional development opportunities. This will provide them with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the position and moreover, it demonstrates that their journey is being invested in and they are highly valued.

A flexible working environment is a really important consideration for candidates. Candidates are inclined to choose opportunities that provide them with the most flexibility and a hybrid way of working suits many of the candidates we represent. Therefore, it is useful to specify if remote and/or hybrid working options are in place and remain consistent in this message through the recruitment. If a role requires travel, mentioning an estimate of how many times they would have to travel a month and clarifying any reimbursed costs would help candidates in their decision to apply for the role.
