Sustainability at Prospectus

Sustainability at Prospectus means being authentic. It means we don’t greenwash our emissions, we’re transparent about the challenges we face, and above all else, we’re doing this because we truly want to protect our planet and ensure a better future for everyone.

Our Sustainability Journey

Sustainability has long been central to how Prospectus operates. Since becoming a certified B Corp in 2016, we have continued to strengthen our environmental commitments and embed sustainable practices across our organisation.

Our journey combines major milestones such as assessing our Scope 1 and 2 emissions and joining the Fit for the Future Sustainability Network, with the everyday actions that reduce our impact and support a more responsible way of working.

  • Hybrid working to reduce commuting emissions
  • Ongoing move towards a paperless workplace
  • Switching to a 100% renewable electricity supplier
  • Energy‑efficient lighting across our office
  • Use of environmentally friendly cleaning products
  • London Living Wage for contracted cleaners
  • Ethical purchasing and supplier standards
  • Recycling of general and confidential waste
  • Donation or recycling of furniture and IT equipment
  • Sustainable choices such as Fairtrade goods

Our Future Ambitions

Looking ahead, we are committed to continuously reducing our environmental impact and strengthening our approach to sustainability across the organisation. These commitments build on our existing ambitions to engage our team, share learning with our networks, and integrate sustainability more deeply across our services and platforms.

Our future actions will continue to reflect our belief that sustainability must be practical, authentic, and embedded into our daily work, for the benefit of our community, our partners, and the planet.

  • Deepening our progress towards a paperless workplace, reducing waste and increasing digital‑first processes wherever possible.
  • Increasing the use of eco‑friendly products, from stationery to office consumables, ensuring sustainability is embedded in every purchasing decision.
  • Continually working to reduce our carbon footprint, building on previous emissions assessments and seeking opportunities for long‑term improvement.

Our Scope Emissions

What are Scope Emissions?

A company’s greenhouse emissions are measured in three scopes.

Scope 1: emissions produced directly by the company.

Scope 2: emissions caused indirectly by the company through the energy it purchases.

Scope 3: emissions not produced by the company or through company owned / controlled assets, but from those the company is indirectly responsible for.

Sustainability in the Not-For-Profit Sector Survey Report

In addition to the actions we are taking internally, we are keen to amplify voices and knowledge on sustainability externally. To support that strand of our work we recently put together a short survey to help us better understand the perceptions and values of sustainability in our community. In addition, we included some questions within the survey that covered protected characteristics in order to understand the intersectionality of sustainability and diversity.

We were so pleased to have 248 responses to our survey with a diverse range of respondents and with answers covering responsibility, considerations, credentials and much more, the report makes for a really interesting read.
