As we observe World Mental Health Day on October 10th, this year’s theme, Mental Health at Work, resonates deeply. It’s an important opportunity for us to reflect on how we can support both ourselves and others in maintaining mental well-being, especially as many of us continue to navigate the challenges of working from home.

At Prospectus, we marked the occasion by hosting an internal Mental Health Forum where our team shared actionable tips for balancing the demands of work and personal life—insights we’d like to pass on to our valued clients and candidates.

What is World Mental Health Day?

Since 1992, World Mental Health Day has brought together supporters from over 150 countries to promote mental health education, raise awareness, and combat stigma. It’s a day to acknowledge the global impact of mental health issues and advocate for accessible care. This year, with the spotlight on mental health in the workplace, the conversation is more relevant than ever.

Key Takeaways from Our Mental Health Forum

During our recent internal forum, led by our amazing colleagues, Awais, Rhys and Paulo, sparked important conversations around managing the blurred lines between work and home life—especially when working remotely—and how to cope with feelings of overwhelm which in some cases can lead to burnout. Below are some of the tips we discussed, which might be useful for you or your team:

Take regular breaks

We talked about how, in the office, natural breaks occur—whether it’s a quick chat with a colleague or stepping out for lunch. When working from home, it’s easy to forget these moments of pause. Schedule regular breaks throughout your day to refresh your mind.

Talk to someone

Whether it’s a friend, colleague, or family member, reaching out when you’re feeling overwhelmed can make a huge difference. Don’t hesitate to ask for help—whether it’s to offload, seek advice, or simply prioritise your tasks.

Be Kind to Yourself

Recognising when you need a break is crucial for maintaining your mental health. Asking for support or admitting that you need a rest isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a strength! Listening to your body and mind can help you stay resilient.

Clear Your Desk, Clear Your Mind

Clutter can affect your focus and productivity. Creating a tidy workspace can help you stay organised and foster a clearer state of mind.

Tech Boundaries Matter!

Set boundaries with your technology. Switch off email and app notifications after hours, or at least during annual leave, to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Some of our team members have also seen the benefit of switching phones to ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode during off-hours to minimise distractions.
