How to use AI in your recruitment
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a computer programme that has been trained to chat with humans in a natural way, similar to how people talk to each other. It uses advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology to understand the meaning behind the words you type or say, and then generates a response that makes sense in the context of the conversation. ChatGPT has been trained on a vast amount of text data, which means it can talk about a wide range of topics and understand many different ways of saying things. Some examples of how you might use ChatGPT include getting answers to questions, having a friendly conversation, or getting help with a problem.
ChatGPT actually wrote that response to – “What is ChatGPT in simple terms?”!
How easy is it to use?
ChatGPT is incredibly easy to use – you create an account using your email or connect your Google / Microsoft account and you go through a few simple steps to verify your account. Once that’s done you enter a simple dashboard with chat functionality. This is where you can ask ChatGPT anything you want. It could be explaining quantum computing, the history of the Aztecs, or more practical questions like asking ChatGPT to draft documents, content or responses to direct questions. You can read how recruiters are using AI in 2025 here.
Also, at the moment the platform is free to use.
What are the limitations?
Even a cursory glance online at the limitation of AI and ChatGPT will show you that the system is far from perfect. The response could be plausible but incorrect, it might ask you to rephrase questions but most importantly the system can exhibit bias in its responses. ChatGPT is very aware of this and makes it really clear on their site and also in the system itself, however as a user, you need to have this front and centre when using the system.
How can ChatGPT support my recruitment?
There is a range of ways ChatGPT can support you with recruitment and we have shared three examples below. In the videos, you can see how the platform can make it quick and easy to draft templates for recruitment content and copy. You can also see some of the limitations in practice, for example including a required number of years experience and in other videos we have seen the platform include a degree in required skills.
However, the copy from each of these videos can be copied and pasted onto your own materials to be reviewed and edited to bring them in line with best practice and refined to match your recruitment requirements.
Draft a job description
Draft a job advert
Draft a social media post
Whilst it is clear to see the vast capabilities and possibilities that ChatGPT has, there are still some tasks and processes that cannot be completed without human judgement, and you need to ask it smart questions to achieve the desired results. However, it is a fantastic way to speed up processes and streamline the way in which you work.
Have you used ChatGPT in your recruitment? We would love to know if so!
