Communications & External Affairs Manager
The Utley Foundation is a private family charitable trust, established in 2014 with offices in Essex. The Foundation exists to advance social causes close to the heart of the trustees, and to act as a catalyst for greater funding and wider action for the causes it supports. The charity is committed to helping people in need at home and abroad. In the early stages of the Foundation’s development, they have been focussing on vulnerable children, people living with dementia in the UK and under-resourced local communities in the UK and beyond.
In partnership with the International Longevity Centre (UK), the Utley Foundation established the world’s first high level commission to investigate the role of music in helping with the prevention, management, treatment and care of people with dementia. This ground-breaking report was launched at the House of Lords in January 2018. The Foundation has since launched the Music for Dementia 2020 campaign- the resulting growth from which has driven the need for this new role of Communications & External Affairs Manager.
This essential role would be responsible for leading on the external and internal communications of the charity. This would entail promoting the charity via all types of media by telling the story of the foundation and the programmes and initiatives it supports. This was a brand new role and presented an opportunity for the right person to cover general strategic communications, public relations and policy change on behalf of the organisation and in relation to the exciting and innovative “Music for Dementia” (M4D) campaign.
The successful candidate was accomplished Marketing Communications professional, with more than 20 years’ experience in-house and agency-side in a range of sectors, both B2B and B2C. A former journalist, editor of leading consumer magazines and contributor to a host of trade media, they were well versed in identifying and writing engaging stories or proposals for targeted media/audiences.
