Head of Finance and Operations (part-time)

The Royal Society of Musicians (RSM) is Britain’s oldest music charity. Their aims remain as relevant today as they were in the earliest years – to provide vital financial assistance, advice and guidance to those professionally active in the world of music, whose lives’ have been impacted by physical or mental ill health. Being a charity run by musicians for musicians, RSM is uniquely placed to fully understand the challenges faced within the profession.

Prospectus were approached by the CEO at RSM as they looked to recruit a new Head of Finance and Operations on a part-time basis, to develop the role held by the previous Finance and Administration Officer who had moved on. RSM is a small organisation who operate with 5 staff members therefore, it was important to find the right person fairly quickly due to the critical nature of the role. This stand-alone role required someone self sufficient with the ability to think strategically but also be comfortable dealing with all operational aspects of the role. The ideal candidate would have the experience and gravitas to liaise effectively with all finance and non-finance stakeholders and with the right character and values to fit in well within their small team.
With the charity operating as an almost fully-remote organisation we were able to extend our reach across the UK. Following an advertising campaign and having proactively reached out to our own networks, RSM successfully appointed an experienced finance professional with previous exposure to the third sector to fit well within their team.
“It was an absolute pleasure to deal with Prospectus. Steve understood our requirements for the role, provided advice about our proposed job spec and forwarded details of a variety of candidates, all of whom met our brief. This enabled us to interview a number of candidates and appoint just the right person to the post who has now settled into the role and is a fantastic addition to our team”.
