Current financial systems have become disconnected from the real needs of people, the environment, the wider economy and society. Dysfunction in the financial system lies at the root of many of today’s challenges, from climate change and economic crises to poverty, marginalisation and inequality. It doesn’t have to be this way. People created the system – and people can change it.
The Finance Innovation Lab achieve their work through four programme streams and Prospectus’ initial introduction to the organisation came as we supported the recruitment of their Head of Climate Safe Banking Programme. The process for this piece of recruitment was a targeted headhunt search across a variety of sectors focused on candidates with strong understanding of the banking system.
Although the salary offered for the position was attractive and in parity with many other similar positions within the market, the requirement to have experience and understanding of the commercial banking sector created challenges with many candidates’ salary expectations.
To deliver this shortlist, we conducted a targeted headhunt approach to the recruitment through our database, social media channels and networks. This involved mapping out organisations that had either strong climate finance focuses or, had leaders who might have strong networks in this area. We were able to present a highly engaged pool of candidates for interview with the successful candidate having worked within similar thematic areas, with an excellent blend of commercial and charitable experience.
From this appointment, we have been delighted to build the relationship further with the appointment of a Director of Programmes and Campaigns and Director of People, Operations and Resources. These processes allowed us to partner closely with FIL and ensure our processes were adapted to the organisation’s internal systems. We worked closely to adopt their recruitment methods, such as using blind recruitment and asking candidates to answer a set of questions rather than a traditional supporting statement. We worked in collaboration to produce engaging advert copy, ensuring adverts were placed in areas to attract a diverse range of candidates. Following the successful recruitment process, we also provided details of diversity statistics on the applicants to identify any areas of issue within the process that could be developed for future recruitment.
This close partnership style relationship has allowed us to really understand the aims and objectives of the organisation, allowing Prospectus to effectively engage candidates and build excitement about Finance Innovation Lab.
