About
Lupus UK is the only national charity supporting people living with lupus and those who care for them. As the organisation embarked on an ambitious new strategy to broaden and deepen its reach across the lupus community, it sought to strengthen its capacity to produce high-quality, trusted and accessible health information.
The Brief
Prospectus was appointed to recruit a Health Information Officer on a full-time, permanent basis, with flexibility for office-based, hybrid or remote working. Reporting into the Health Information, Policy and Research Manager, the role would focus on developing evidence-based resources for the lupus community across a range of formats, including printed publications and digital content. The organisation needed someone who could communicate complex health, scientific and research information in an engaging and accessible way, while working closely with colleagues across community and social media activity and, importantly, with people affected by lupus, clinicians and other subject experts to ensure information was accurate, current and genuinely useful.
Health information roles require a rare combination of skills: strong scientific literacy, excellent written communication, editorial judgement, stakeholder management and a values-led approach to accessibility and inclusion. Lupus UK needed someone who could balance clinical accuracy with warmth and clarity—while working at pace across multiple channels and audiences.
Our Approach
Prospectus ran a targeted search designed to reach candidates with experience at the intersection of health information, research communications and patient-facing content, focusing on:
- Candidates with proven experience producing clinically accurate health resources in collaboration with experts and lived-experience contributors
- People comfortable working across mixed media (web, print, video and campaigns)
- Individuals able to bring a structured, evidence-led approach—paired with creativity and empathy for service users
Across the process, we supported Lupus UK with shortlisting and interview coordination to maintain momentum and ensure a strong candidate experience.
The Outcome
The successful candidate is a health communications professional with experience spanning charity-sector health information and research engagement, as well as medical writing in a professional environment. They have led the development and continuous improvement of public-facing health information resources and are experienced in working with stakeholders to co-produce materials that reflect both evidence and lived experience. Alongside this, they bring a strong academic research foundation, including doctoral-level study in a life sciences discipline.
High-quality health information can be transformational—helping people feel informed, supported and able to advocate for themselves in their care. This appointment strengthens Lupus UK’s capacity to deliver trusted, user-focused resources and to ensure that people affected by lupus can access information that is clear, current and empowering.
