Student Support Roles

Kings College London is a leading UK university, offering a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses spanning Arts and Culture, to Engineering, to Law, and Medicine. We have worked with KCL on over 1000 placements since 1998.

They reached out to us in June to let us know that they’d be requiring a number of temporary support staff to assist them with student enrolment at the start of the new academic year. Given that the roles would only start in September, we had ample time as a team to strategize how best to approach these vacancies, and how to divide the workload amongst the team.

Some of the challenges we faced were that staff and candidates alike had many holidays booked over this summer period, which required very clear communication from all parties. Another challenge was that all the roles were fully on site, unfortunately due to the nature of the work required, remote working was not an option. On site roles are often less appealing to candidates. Lastly, the main challenge from a strategic point of view was when best to approach and book in candidates. Due to the nature of temp work, roles can move quite quickly. Candidates who plan to be available in 4 weeks, may find another role during this period and no longer be available. There are a number of different moving parts when working on temporary roles; needing to verify Right to Work and references for candidates, while ensuring that they will still be available by the start date, it can be difficult to get the timing just right, especially when working on multiple temp roles at once.

Due to the large amount of roles to fill, we reached out to candidates in our database that we had worked with before, and advertised the role to our larger networks to gain more interest. By the end of the process, we had successfully placed 5 Student Records Officers, 4 Student Compliance Officers, 4 Student Enquiries Officers, a team of Administrators and Programmes Officers, and a Learning Technologist.

We were thrilled to support one of our longstanding clients with an excellent team of temps to support them during this busy time.
