International Alert is one of the world’s leading peacebuilding organisations, with over 30 years of experience laying the foundations for peace, and 230 staff based in 17 offices around the world.
International Alert’s vision is that people and their societies can resolve conflicts without violence, working together to build sustainable and inclusive peace.
At this critical time, International Alert was seeking a new Chair of Trustees who was truly committed to their mission: working with people directly affected by violent conflict to find lasting solutions, as well as shaping policies and practices to reduce and prevent violence, and to support sustainable peace. International Alert collaborates with all those striving for peace to strengthen their collective voice and impact.
International Alert were looking for a new Chair with a strong understanding of the role of Boards as well as good governance experience and significant strategic leadership. This individual would be an effective ambassador, working closely with the Executive Director and the organisation’s board and have previous CEO experience in a similar sized organisation. Relevant networks and knowledge and experience of the International NGO sector was desirable too.
Our placement, David Nussbaum, is currently Chair of the Joffe Charitable Trust, and of the Transparency International UK Advisory Council; Senior Independent Director of Drax Group plc; a Board (Council) member at Chatham House, and of the International Budget Partnership; and a member of the Ethical Investment Advisory Group of the Church of England. David was formerly CEO of The Elders, working directly with global leaders on peace and human rights. Before that he was CEO of WWF-UK and Chair of WWF’s Global Climate and Energy Initiative, and CEO of the global anti-corruption organisation Transparency International based in Berlin.
