Director, Private Bank Philanthropy Services
The Private Banking division of Barclays Private Bank offers bespoke banking and investment solutions to high net worth individuals across the globe, providing a comprehensive range of investment and wealth structuring advice and banking services.
The Philanthropy Service they offer aims to engage, educate and support clients with their personal giving aspirations through the provision of advice and information, helping clients answer questions about their giving and navigate the charitable landscape to enable them to feel confident about their giving.
As a stand-alone role, the new Director was taking over a very well-regarded service, both internally and externally, known for its high quality, tailored and personalised approach. As well as advice, the Director works internally to promote the service to private bankers and wealth advisors as well as externally delivering networking events, generating new insights and acting as a thought leader within the field of philanthropy and financial services.
With this in mind we sought candidates with a proven track record of advising HNI clients on philanthropic matters, looking for people with a deep understanding of the sector at a local and national level as well as a full understanding of differing cultures and styles of giving.
As part of our search we mapped out – via established networks and research – leaders within similar philanthropy services, experienced high-level philanthropy advisors within the charity and education sectors and consultants working within the field.
As a highly experienced philanthropic leader and advisor to foundations and HNI’s, Juliet Agnew was appointed to post. Juliet has genuine depth of knowledge within philanthropy having worked as a consultant for 6 years prior, in particular with the Utley family to build their foundation, its team and operations. Previous to that she was Partner/Head of Philanthropy of I.G. Advisors and Director of the UBS Optimus Foundation at UBS Wealth Management.
Juliet’s understanding of social impact and philanthropy is diverse, as an experienced advisor she is able to combine insights from the ground-level with leadership, governance, fundraising, financial management, design thinking, communications and collective action. She brings cross-sector insights and business acumen, enabling a fresh perspective.
