About
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a charitable organisation based in Princes Risborough, Berkshire. The organisation trains highly-skilled assistance dogs who go on to provide support and companionship to individuals living with hearing loss or impairments. The organisation also offers a range of peer support services, providing emotional and practical advice. Through these clever canines and personalised support, people living with deafness and hearing loss can rebuild connection, companionship and confidence that transforms lives.
The Brief
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People were looking for a Volunteering Team Administrator for an initial period of 3-months, based on-site, 3 days per week. Having been previously unable to find a successful candidate when recruiting for the role themselves, the organisation reached out to Prospectus Temporary Recruitment Team. This role was designed to support their Volunteering Team – being the first point of contact for all volunteer queries, supporting with volunteer recruitment and maintaining accurate data and records for the team.
Our Approach
As this role was based in Princes Risborough, it was important to reach candidates who were in the area or local enough to travel to the office 3-days per week. When screening applications, we focused on the required skills of IT confidence, including CRM database usage, alongside strong administrative and personable skills. During shortlisting, emphasis was placed on the location and travel requirements to ensure candidates were able to commit to the role.
We received 40 applications for the role, in addition to candidates who had been sourced from our own networks. A select few were shortlisted and sent to the organisation for review, which was shortly followed by two interviews. The successful candidate was appointed by the organisation just over a week after sourcing.
The Outcome
As this was our first time working with the organisation, we were delighted to be able to find them the person they needed. The successful candidate has a background in administrative roles with additional experience as a volunteer, so they were able to understand the role from both the organisation’s and volunteers’ perspectives.
The candidate was so successful in the role that halfway through the initial 3-month placement, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People offered them a permanent role. The feedback from the organisation was extremely positive, and we were pleased to exceed their expectations in finding them what turned out to be a permanent member of staff!
