Welcome to our leadership spotlight series, where we ask each leader 10 quick-fire questions so that we can give a little insight into the person behind a leadership role.

The thread that runs through my career is business with social purpose. From entrepreneurship in the arts to the leadership of an innovative nonprofit, I have promoted products and services that make a positive impact.

As Director at Hubbub Foundation I am responsible for the financial and operational management of an organisation with a turnover of over £3m and 35+ strong team, as well as leading on various strategic projects and developing new business.

As Managing Director of Hubbub Enterprise I lead a team that sells both products and services. Our purpose is to generate a profit for our parent charity, Hubbub Foundation, as well as to scale the charity’s environmental impact. Our clients range from investment banks to household-name brands to local authorities.

This work plays to many of my strengths: strategic analysis; collaborative leadership; creating new income streams; marketing on a tight budget; developing international sales networks; client relations, as well as the flexibility and resilience to grow an organisation in ever-changing circumstances.

I cut my teeth as an entrepreneur, running my own services company in the music industry. The Other Hand provided record label representation to US clients. The business was profitable every year, and I sold it to one of our partners with a full client list. I was able to take the time to make sure my next move was the right one, and committed the next phase of my career to social enterprise and the environment. The On Purpose programme powered the transition, and led me to Hubbub.

Doing the papers at WHSmith on a Saturday morning. First ‘proper’ job: selling records to record shops.

Exercise has almost magical powers for me!

An old friend who’s been on a similar path in a totally different sector.

Effortlessly writing timeless works of literature.

Italy. India. Or, failing that, I’ll go to E. Mono in Kentish Town.

I have the privilege of being able to choose a career – to not use it purposefully seems such a waste.
