Executive Director
The International Society of Wheelchair Professionals (ISWP) is the lead coordinator of wheelchair sector activities globally, helping to professionalise wheelchair services around the world to benefit both wheelchair users and those who help them. Operating under the auspices of the University of Pittsburgh, ISWP was to become its own separate charitable non-profit organization and was seeking to appoint its first Executive Director.
ISWP approached Prospectus to find an Executive Director with outstanding communication and relationship building abilities to help drive global initiatives focused on improving the lives of people with disabilities. Following an extensive search, Alexander Kamadu was appointed to be ISWP’s first Executive Director. Based in South Africa, Alexander was previous Director of Health Focus, South Africa, with his work also covering Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana and Mozambique. Here, his work involved working with people involved in the mining sector that suffered injury or the effects of TB or silicosis. His early career was spent in the NHS in England, becoming a manager for wheelchair services and assistive technology, and he was later seconded to the Department of Health before designing health programmes in Whitehall.
Alexander brought the knowledge, entrepreneurial, fundraising, leadership, advocacy, and high level networking abilities that ISWP was seeking, together with a passion for the wheelchair service provision sector.
