Clinical Trustee

There are over 900,000 people with dementia in the UK. This will increase to over one million by 2025 and 1.6 million by 2040.

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Their nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing support for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. Over the past few years, Dementia UK had been increasing delivery for families living with the effects of dementia by significantly expanding their clinical services and increasing their income and their national awareness.

Having supported the recruitment of Dementia UK’s senior team for more than ten years, Prospectus were delighted to work with the organisation again ahead of their next strategic phase. The Clinical Trustee would support Dementia UK’s continued growth of their clinical presence and their support across the UK. The Clinical Trustee would bring clinical skills, knowledge and expertise to help drive the charity forward, shaping their strategy for the future.

Theresa Murphy was appointed to the role. Currently the Chief Nurse at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, Theresa brings over 30 years’ experience in complex health and care settings. She has been the chief nursing officer in a range of organisations including Portsmouth University Hospital Trust, North Middlesex University Hospital, The Hillingdon Hospital Foundation Trust and The London Clinic. After becoming a registered general nurse in 1987, Theresa trained in neuroscience, transplant nursing and critical care.

Theresa holds an LLB and was a London scholar for the Florence Nightingale Foundation and has previously attended Oxford University for global executive studies.

On her appointment as a Trustee, Theresa said: “It is a privilege to be a Trustee for Dementia UK, a charity that is providing essential support for people living with dementia and their families when most needed. Admiral Nurses are central to providing life changing support for families affected by all forms of dementia. I hope to be able to use my expertise in nursing and healthcare to support the charity to make a difference.”

Hilda Hayo, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Admiral Nurse at Dementia UK said: “All of the Director positions within Dementia UK have been appointed through Prospectus. We have been so impressed with the whole process from finding high calibre candidates through to the recruitment stage. Prospectus’ attention to detail and finding people who truly get the values of the charity has been outstanding. We also recently appointed a trustee through Prospectus and have been so impressed by the calibre of candidates attracted to a hard to fill post we will be using them again.”
