Centrepoint
Centrepoint is the national charity working to improve the lives of socially excluded homeless young people. It provides a range of accommodation based services, including emergency night shelters and short stay hostels, specialist projects for care leavers, ex-offenders, young single parents, foyers and supported flats and floating support services.
Centrepoint began outsourcing locum staff to our Social Care and Housing team in 2005, giving them access to higher quality locums at a lower cost. Using our consultants also released service managers and permanent staff from managing locum cover, allowing them to focus on areas of work directly benefiting young people. At the same time, our service helped to ensure tighter cost controls, lower internal costs and a reduction in the number of agencies used.
Our consultants worked to generate a constant flow of higher quality staff to the locum pool, using advertising, interviewing and training sessions delivered jointly with Centrepoint. We also developed a bespoke centralised booking process, and took responsibility for the overall management and administration of the service. As a result, we supported Centrepoint in building a stronger supply of skilled locums, and helped to reduce costs in all service areas in the process.
