Independent Victim Advocate

£13.62 p/h (+ holiday pay)

Date closing:

Prospectus is working with an independent charity that works towards a world where people affected by crime or traumatic events get the support they need and the respect they deserve. They help victims feel safer and help them find the strength to move beyond crime. They are currently looking to recruit an Independent Victim Advocate to provide holistic support to all victims and witnesses referred to their service in South London. This role is offered on a temporary basis, initially for three months.

As their Independent Victim Advocate, you will lead on support for your allocated caseload of clients and will work collaboratively with internal and external teams and professional agencies to ensure the support they receive is effective, tailored and accessible at the right time. With a focus on those that are most vulnerable, including repeat victims, you will be expected to provide practical and emotional support that is approachable, flexible and caring, whilst showing empathy at all times. Finally, you will be tenacious in support of your clients, as well as being able to problem solve and overcome the challenges often posed by the criminal justice system.

To be successful, you will have a proven track record in delivering a support service directly to clients with complex needs within a voluntary, statutory and/or community based setting. Due to the nature of this position, you will also need to possess knowledge of the criminal justice system and the impacts of crime, along with knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse processes and services. Finally, demonstrable experience of safeguarding is essential, as is previous experience of developing relationships with partner agencies and relevant external organisations.

The successful candidate will be required to work 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm. You will provide support on an outreach basis; some flexibility regarding location and hours is required as part of the role.

To be considered, you must be available immediately and be in possession of a fully enhanced DBS check (Adults & Children) that is registered to the online update service.
