Sustrans is a £50m charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle. Sustrans works to connect people and places, create liveable neighbourhoods, and transform our school run and commutes. They believe that fuelling our own travel benefits our health and happiness, our environments, our communities, and our economies.
Having been through a period of significant change culminating in the launch of the new strategy, Sustrans sought a successor to the current Chair who could continue to provide inspirational leadership, and help make that strategy a reality. Prospectus was mandated to find a Chair with strategic leadership skills, able to influence at the highest levels and with significant governance experience. We were ideally looking for this person to have experience of leading a large, dynamic, but dispersed organisation.
Lynne Berry was successfully appointed as Chair. Her governance experience includes: being the current Chair of Breast Cancer Now and a Trustee at UnLtd. She was previously Chair of the Commission on the Voluntary Sector and Ageing, Deputy-Chair of the Canal and River Trust and Chair of Glandŵr Cymru (the Trust in Wales). She was a Non-Executive Director at Cambridge University Hospitals Foundation Trust and has served on a number of other Boards. She is a Professor at Cass Business School, City University, and a Fellow of Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge. She has held several Chief Executive posts including at WRVS, the General Social Care Council, the Charity Commission and the Equal Opportunities Commission.
