Roots of Empathy, a charity operating on three continents, was founded by the distinguished Ashoka Fellow Mary Gordon in 1996. Recognised as a social innovator, their empathy based programmes target young people and operates in schools.
Roots of Empathy approached Prospectus with the need to further expand the mission of the International organisation in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. They were looking for a dynamic, entrepreneurial, empathic, and talented individual to successfully lead this expansion and to launch into new communities across the UK and Republic of Ireland. This is the first post they have based in the UK.
This individual needed to be an experienced leader, with a strong understanding of school systems, philanthropy and government, and the operational acumen to promote the efficient day-to-day activities of the charity. Roots of Empathy required a candidate with significant experience in strategic development, as they look to expand and increase their reach.
Working on a sole agency basis, Prospectus ran a full recruitment process to identify suitable candidates for the role. Through the use of advertising, social media, and an extensive database search, candidates were sourced, screened, and interviewed by our experienced consultant to produce a creative and diverse short list.
Katie Cohen was appointed and joined Roots of Empathy in August 2015. Katie has 14 years’ experience in the voluntary and community sector, bringing her programme and business development skills to this new role.
