Plan UK works and advocates for children and their communities to help them move from a life of poverty to a future with opportunity. Plan UK pioneered child sponsorship 75 years ago—today over 100,000 individuals sponsor children through the organisation. Plan UK currently works across a range of sectors, including education, health, child protection, child participation, economic security, water and sanitation and disaster risk reduction, with a current focus on the promotion of girls’ rights and responding to and preparing for disasters worldwide.
Following the merger of several departments, we undertook an extensive search for candidates who would harmonise the fundraising, communications and advocacy, research and campaigns units and maximise integrated working and effectiveness. We sought a strong communicator, with the ability to interact with a range of stakeholders, as well as a visionary leader who could play a crucial role in setting and implementing the charity’s strategy as member of the Senior Management team.
Plan UK appointed Mike Thiedke, Head of Child Sponsorship and Supporter Care at Action Aid. With 10 years progressive experience in the international education/humanitarian development field, including with the United Nations, Mike had provided inspirational and strategic leadership for a range of complex international organisations.
