Chief Executive

For over 35 years, Hospiscare has provided care and support for people with advanced, progressive life-limiting illnesses and to their families within Exeter, Mid and East Devon. The charity was started with just two community nurses and has grown into a highly respected end of life and palliative care charity with 280 staff and 1,000+ volunteers. Hospiscare was rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission in 2016. 

The current CEO has recently retired having completed 12 highly successful years with Hospiscare, during which the charity has seen significant growth in both the quality and quantity of services. They sought someone with energy, integrity, and creativity to lead the team into a different and rapidly changing future. Hospiscare is located in mid-Devon and whilst candidates with a knowledge of the area were of interest, we recommended a national search in order to ensure a rich selection of candidates. The search engaged people from both the not for profit, public and commercial sectors, who demonstrated the necessary skills to lead a complex organisation. 65 applications were received and 4 were taken to final panel.

The successful candidate, Peter Brennan is Managing Director of Vapormatic Ltd, a global company marketing a large range of replacement parts for a variety of agricultural vehicles/machinery. Peter has worked successfully in complex and highly regulated industry sectors, building partnerships and collaborative relationships in the UK and globally. He was formerly a Board Trustee at Hospiscare, demonstrating his passion and understanding of the sector. He brings a track record of leadership by example, living and demonstrating ethical and professional values, with a real passion for building positive organisational cultures, enabling individual empowerment and growth and driving collaborative success.
