Every year nearly 62,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK; that’s the equivalent of 170 people every day. Breast Cancer Care is the only UK charity providing support for women, men, family and friends affected by breast cancer. They’ve been caring for them, supporting them, and campaigning on their behalf since 1973. Breast Cancer Care ensures that no one has to face breast cancer alone. They help many thousands of people affected by breast cancer gain confidence in their ability to live with it, through it and beyond it.
Prospectus was recommended to work with Breast Cancer Care by the outgoing post holder, who had been impressed by the service he received as a candidate. Breast Cancer Care was seeking a Director of Fundraising and Marketing with the vision and drive to achieve ambitious income and impact growth. The appointed candidate would also lead all communications and marketing activity. Prospectus targeted over 120 candidates with strong leadership skills and a track record of income growth, with experience of developing high performing teams. Breast Cancer Care interviewed ten candidates before creating a short list, progressing with three to final interview.
Steve Lucas was appointed to the role of Director of Fundraising and Marketing. Steve joined Breast Cancer Care from the commercial sector, having worked in the UK, Europe and internationally within marketing roles across sports, fashion, entertainment, FMCG & gaming at board, executive and senior level roles, including for premium and market leading brands such as Lacoste, Speedo, Budgens/Londis, UK National Lottery, Walt Disney and Häagen-Dazs. In order to facilitate his transition to the sector, Prospectus has supported Steve with invitations to sector events and introductions to fundraising leaders.
