In 2015 the Big Lottery Fund launched its new strategic framework for the period 2015-21 ‘People in the Lead’. The framework signalled an important shift and driver in the approach to funding, focusing on the strengths of people and communities, trusting them to make great things happen. The largest distributor of lottery money, the Big Lottery Fund has an annual grant budget of c. £750 million and 900 staff.
Prospectus was appointed following a competitive tender process to work in close partnership with the Fund to recruit a number of key senior leadership roles: England Grant Making Director; England Portfolio Development Director; England Deputy Director Strategic Investments; and England Deputy Director Change and UK Portfolio and Knowledge Director. Following the successful delivery of these campaigns, Prospectus was also asked to lead the recruitment of a Communications Director and Deputy Director, Responsive Programmes (currently in progress).
The brief for each requirement was very different, but with a common theme being the ability to balance informed and creative strategic thinking with the reality of the grant-making environment in which the Fund operates. The campaign required the five initial search processes to be conducted simultaneously which meant extensive internal resource and bespoke reporting processes. Prospectus created an integrated search and selection campaign including designing a microsite to publicise the roles. Social media was also used extensively in the publicising of these opportunities which garnered much interest in the market place.
