Interim Chief Executive

Brookes Union exists to support, represent and inspire the students of Oxford Brookes University. They are a member led organisation, which means they are led by and exist for the students of the University, who are automatically members upon entry.

Brookes Union offers a range of services for students. They have loads of active student Societies, a Safety Bus service, an Advice Service and a system of Student Reps. They also run a range of events from Open Discussions to Comedy nights.

Brookes Union had retained Prospectus to help them with their search for a new permanent CEO. Whilst running the executive search they were keen to have an interim CEO in place for a period of 6-months to lead the team through this transition. As they were fast approaching Fresher’s Week, it was key to get this person in post as quickly as possible, so as to enable the Union to continue to do what it does best, empower their student body. Given the unique structure of a Student’s Union, we needed to be sensitive to their needs while at the same time ensuring an effective interim who could hit the ground running was found.

Tim Sice was successfully appointed as interim CEO at the beginning of October 19 for a 6-month period. Tim brought a good understanding and previous knowledge of Students’ Unions, having just completed a stint as interim COO at St George’s University Students’ Union, and was appointed to leverage his senior leadership skills and guide the team through this period of change.

Tom Smith – Deputy Chair of Oxford Brookes Students’ Union commented:

‘The team at Prospectus were brilliant throughout the whole interim recruitment process. We needed someone quickly who would be able to support our teams, and I was impressed with how effectively Prospectus were able to turn this around.

The candidates we were presented were all very high standard, and matched our needs. We were supported throughout with regular contact and information whenever we needed it, and no question was too challenging.

We were able to choose an interim from the first batch of candidates shared, which made a huge impact on our work, as it meant we didn’t have to spend hours looking for somebody to fill the role’.
