It’s amazing where your career can go when you join a Trainee Programme. I joined Prospectus as a Trainee Recruitment Consultant a year and 9 months ago and it is a decision I do not regret. After finishing University with a 1st class honours degree in Childhood and Youth Studies, I was keen to make my stamp in the charity sector. After many job applications and numerous interviews, I soon learnt that the roles I was applying for weren’t actually what I wanted to do and I wanted to contribute to the sector in a different way. I stumbled across several recruitment roles during my job search, yet it wasn’t a career I had considered until I saw the job advert for Trainee Recruitment Consultant at Prospectus. I noticed that Prospectus worked solely within the charity sector and suddenly a light bulb switched! I thought what better way to have an impact within the sector than recruiting the people in it.
Having no recruitment experience, I was hesitant about applying for the role but thought what could I possibly lose in doing so?
To my surprise, I received a phone call from Prospectus and by the end of it, had been invited to interview. I was made to feel so at ease during my interview and within the first few minutes was more relaxed than ever. Prospectus was not only interested in what I had done previously (questions I was used to answering), they took the time to find out how I liked to work and what would suit me best in the working environment. Two interviews later, I was offered the position of Trainee Recruitment Consultant and joined Prospectus shortly after.
Joining Prospectus as a trainee allowed me to gain an in-depth understanding of the fascinating world of recruitment and all that comes with it whilst gaining hands-on, practical experience.
During the 6 months as a trainee, I was mentored by a senior member of my team who supported me in every aspect of my role. They made it clear that no question was too silly to ask and there was no mistake that couldn’t be fixed or learnt from!
Throughout my trainee programme, my colleagues treated me as a valued member of the team and after 6 months, I completed my traineeship and became a fully-fledged Recruitment Consultant continuing to make an impactful contribution to the sector.
I personally could not have chosen a better place to complete my traineeship and I would urge anyone considering a traineeship to press that apply button and go for it! It is a real opportunity to grow as a professional and become established in the field you wish to pursue.
